Just had a great sandwich and bowl of soup! I've reviews of customer service issues but I ordered through grub hub. Food was great, and prices very reasonable. I appreciate being stuffed to the gills for under $8

I like the food, however the dudes behind the counter are always in the weeds and my order is wrong half the time. Wish there was a better sandwich option in Southie...

Rude as all hell. Jesus christ, customer service isn't that hard. Used to love this place, but never again. And yes, Lady, it was over an hour. No idea why Foodler doesn't kick them off.

Order here fairly often and it's usually decent food. However, avoid the rollups. The pita was stale and completely fell apart.

The chicken salad is NOT good (The Windmill) - there is no semblance of chicken anywhere and it's just a mouthful of mayo paste. I also asked for added avocado which I was charged for but they forgot it. I usually like this place, but this was a BAD decision today.

Great selection of sandwiches and an added bonus is the frozen yogurt ( with tons of toppings to choose from ) that can be delivered right to your door!

I wish I could give them less than 1 star. They deserve no stars. I've tried to forgive Amsterdam for their terrible, nasty woman who answers the phones, but I cannot. Multiple times over the past year, I have ordered large meals from Amsterdam for my coworkers. The awful disgruntled woman who answers the phone seems to think that her job is not to simply take my order and fill it, but that she gets paid to insult and demean her customers. You'd think she'd have realized by now that customers buying their food is the key to making them money. She doesn't seem to get it. Six months ago, I ordered for my coworkers over the phone. I had no complaints about the interaction with this terrible woman until she interrupted my order. She told me that I couldn't get a soup and sandwich combo with a panini. In the middle of her sharp tone barking corrections at me, I told her to forget the entire $50+ order and I hung up. Today, I was again forced to hang up in her face. I have since learned this beast's name is TINA. My workplace submitted an online order. My order was kind of weird, so I called to confirm. She is again correcting me rudely, this time telling me that I placed an online order wrong. But she received it and is looking at it, telling me the place I put my orders was wrong. She adds, this'll be extra, that'll be extra... I told her that'd be fine, I just want a correct order. I had a feeling this was still going to get messed up, so I called again to double check. She rudely interjects that no, that's not what I had requested. The order had already gone out, and I was forced to accept my delivered incorrect meal that I was charged extra for. The delivery woman did not speak much English, so she couldn't help to resolve the problem, which is okay, because this is not her fault. She brought with her a copy of the online order receipt, which had items crossed out in black sharpie but not deducted from the total. I wrote on it and sent it back to her, after photocopying it for myself. I wrote to TINA to refund what she had blacked out, and to take back this wrong sandwich. Now, my only weapon against this dingus woman is for my entire workplace to never order from there again. I want her to see this review and change her stupid idiotic ways. She can't run a business like that. Whoever the owners are need to be aware that their sales are being compromised by the witch who answers their phones. Remarkable that mine is the millionth review complaining strictly about the lack of customer service yet Amsterdam Cafe is still in business.

Not the greatest lunch experience I have had. Everyone is super nice, but the food was just blah. The prices are a little high, and it takes a long time even when you call to order pickup. It always takes 10 minutes longer than they tell you. I had a chicken caesar wrap, where the wrap itself was a little stale and the chicken was a little rubbery

For what it is -- a cheap, non-chain, jack-of-all-trades restaurant with FREE DELIVERY -- you can't complain. My favorite belt-tightening snack is their blended ice cream. They have a machine with a massive rotary blender that will integrate any topping you can think of into the ice cream. Better than a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. And did I mention they will deliver it to your door for free?

had the chicken blt. nothing special about it other than it was huge! but I could have easily made it at home. I hated the fact that two old women were fascinated by me and could stop staring. I had to eat my average sandi on the go just to avoid them. old people scare me, when I get old I'm going to scare people 24/7.

I apologize for inconveniencing you with my business. The woman at the counter could not have been ruder. I simply ordered an iced espresso w three shots (it's on the menu) and she rudely told me she doesn't know what I am talking about and that this isn't Dunkin Donuts. The much more pleasant barista chimed in that she is trained in the art of pouring espresso over ice and stepped in to rescue me. Overall just a very weird experience and I certainly will not be back. Stay in the back if you have zero customer service skills.

Every time I call there not only is the wait time exceptionally long, but the attitude of the person who answers the phone is terrible. This will be my last time eating there, so lady who breathes deep when asked what type of bread you just lost a customer. You are very rude , btw you are a sandwich maker lady so stop being such a snob and guess what you do not belong in the people business. The food is good unfortunately not great but good

Best Grape Leaves that I've ever had. Dingy ambiance, with fake plastic plants, sticky table tops, disinterested gossiping ladies behind the counter. FLIES in the restaurant, during the winter!? Is this a Coffee House? Some shady looking "Russian Mail Order Bride types" were eyeing me suspiciously over their laptops. Then a toothless, scrunchy wearing woman, walks in and starts swearing about her white trash daughter who she had arrested again. This is an honest observation/experience.

The people are insanely rude here. I've given this place 2 tries because the menu always looks good. The first time I ordered a sandwich the blonde lady said "Are you going to leave a tip?" I kid you not. So I felt very awkward and left 2 dollars and she rolled her eyes. This is a place where all you do is order what you want at the front desk. The second time I tried, I wanted to build my own sandwich. The other lady was rude as anything and said they could barely do anything I asked so I walked out.

Love this place, I order from them at least 2-3 times a week! They have the Best Froyo in Southie that can be delivered to your doorstep at no extra charge, I love the paninis as well, BBQ PULLED PORK w/ added Avocado- is a favorite. If you don't get them the first time you call because it just keeps ringing, call back. That may be the only downside, only one person answers the phone and if they are I'm the middle of an order in the store they won't answer your call! A++ food though

This has become THE go to spot for lunch in Southie. The sandwiches are HUGE- you definitely get your money's worth. The turkey avocado, mozzarella tomato basil and chicken salad ALL are a must have especially on their focaccia bread- delicious!

Much better than the Amsterdam Cafe in the south end. Faves: falafel wrap lemon chicken soup baklava grilled chicken + avocado pita red light district sandwich polite service, basic place to eat while you're there.

I really like the food here, but honestly the delivery is insanely slow, and this isn't just an isolated incident. Every time I order for delivery it's at least an hour and tonight, I Have been waiting almost 2 hours to get food...so whatever was hot I doubt will be upon arrival.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. My boyfriend and I ordered takeout last night and were very impressed. We got an order of chicken fingers which were standard but wanted something a bit different so we tried the stuffed grape leaves dinner. I've tried these at a few Greek restaurants but they were not even comparable to these. The flavor was on point and the tazikki sauce they are served with is delicious. They also give you a generous enough portion that I was able to bring leftovers for lunch. I also love their frozen yogurt and the variety of add-ons for mixed in toppings and flavors. We also just opt for pick-up rather than delivery. I recommend this place and have never been disappointed :)

Amsterdam was recommended to me by a co-worker as a place for great sandwiches that delivers. Well, they delivered, two HOURS after I ordered. When I placed my order, they said it would take an hour. That is a long time when you're hungry and on your lunch break, but I said ok. I literally hand my hand on the phone to call back and say "don't bother" when they showed up an hour late. The sandwich was cold, but served on toast, so the bread was just all dry and bland. It came with no condiments. The green bell peppers were sliced over an inch thick and laid on the sandwich so that the whole stack was about 9 inches tall (completely inedible), and the tomatoes that I specifically requested through a bulit-in check box on their online order form were missing. I was very disappointed, and will not order from here again.

I found a small piece of bone in my wrap. Otherwise, the food is okay, but not really remarkable. My wrap, sans bone, had the standard over-tough and dry chicken that you can find at nearly every wrap/cafe place in Boston. I did get my order relatively quickly, and it was cheap, so that makes up for some of my complaints. So ok, but not great.

I'm only leaving is stars because my fiancé said the food is usually good... and I would have given more stars if the food made it to my house in a timely and edible fashion. We ordered from Amsterdam Café just last week and the food arrived quickly and was delicious. However, tonight, we waited over 90 minutes for the order when it was quoted to be an hour. Fine sometimes they get backed up. The problem is that we called for 20 minutes and didn't get an answer. Finally after calling NUMEROUS times a guy answered and claimed that he didn't understand my fiancé's question regarding the amount of time that it was taking for our order. He then stated that the food would be here in 15 minutes; "she just left" and we live 3-5 minutes from the café. Conveniently just a couple of minutes before they closed. Our food did arrive shortly after the phone call, but it was all cold. I promise you that as delicious as a cold mozzarella sticks, marinara sauce, French fries, and a chicken sandwich sound, they are not. My wrap was also missing half of the items I asked to be added to it which makes me wonder if it is dairy free considering I have an allergy. Now I know why my fiancé stopped ordering from them before and I'm sorry we started again.

I have gone here every time I have been to Boston. My favorite is to get the Cracklin Oat Bran and Peanut Butter mixed together as ice cream. May sound weird but I have made converts out of all who have tried mine. And I loved their sandwiches and the ambiance with the big comfy couches and chairs you feel like you are on Friends.

I found a toenail in my chicken salad and it took 2 hours for them to deliver it. When I asked to not pay since it took over 2 hours they denied and then I found a toe nail... Disgusting.

good frozen yogurt and dessert. I cant comment on their food since I haven had it yet. Its a decent place to get some work done with their free wifi and seats. The staff has always been very friendly and attentive. No complaints there. The entire place seems clean and their sandwich descriptions look very good. I'll be back to try one. I ordered a pint of yogurt with snickers bar last time I went and they opened up a snickers bar and only put half of it in there. Why?? It definitely could have used the whole thing. Anyways, a minor complaint I suppose but I still didn't like. My biggest objection, it is always SOOO cold. Regardless of the season. Maybe its that the door is constantly opening and closing so the warm air doesn't stay in but I'm always too cold to stay there for too long. It also gets pretty loud with teenagers coming in and our for frozen yogurt. I wouldn't give this place a wow, but I'll definitely be back. it.

The food here is great and the portions are huge for the prices. The menu is so diverse you'll always be able to find something for the picky people in your group. The downside to this place is that even a simple sandwich takes forever (45 minutes for pick up on an hour for delivery when we ordered around 2pm on a Sunday) and the woman at the counter is often really weird/negative. She was complaining to us about customers taking up too much of her time... ooookayyyyy?

Over the years, Amsterdam has update the appearance of the restaurant, but has declined in customer service, and has not made any updates to the menu. Now, when you call ahead, it takes 25 minutes to make your sandwich, with generally curt and not very pleasant customer service. What Amsterdam still has going for it is a very large selection of sandwiches and salads, including great vegetarian options. After over 50 sandwiches, they have never gotten my order wrong (I guess when you take 25 minutes to make a sandwich, you can double-check). They have 'made to order' fro-yo, in that you select your flavor (eg: oreo and pineapple or whatever), and using a mammoth screw-like blender device, they infuse these flavors into a container of vanilla or chocolate yogurt. This is the standard Southie approach to fro-yo. Overall items are standardly priced; generally under $10 for salad or sandwich and a few bucks for the fro-yo. SUMMARY: Be prepared to wait 25 minutes, and know when you're treated rudely, it's not you, it's them.

I am in between my sandwich and my CD sized cookie. I had to write a review, because that sandwich was awesome. I was in and out in 10 minutes, and the sandwich, the (#30, eggplant, chicken, peppers, etc) was outstanding. Great value for the cost, tons of flavor. I'd say the decor could use a bit of an upgrade, since the bug trap hung from the ceiling and the staff was just kind of hanging out...but it doesn't matter. The food was that good. Now onto the cookie. Go to this place.

This place really makes me miss working in the South End. Now I really have to go out of my way to get here but honestly it is worth it. I have tried several sandwiches here but I always go back to The Rembrandt. Pastrami, Corned Beef, Swiss, Cole Slaw, and Russian Dressing. It can get pretty messy but I don't care. This is one of my most favorite sandwiches ever. I have never had a problem with customer service whether I am eating there or when I used to get delivery. They've always been friendly.

I've decided to write a review after many frustrating experiences here. I hate to! The food is definitely great! It's the delivery/prep time that kills me! Today I ordered a salad with grilled chicken, soup, and a fro-yo... It took well over an hour to get to my door! And folks, I'll let you all know that I'm super-lazy and say that I live REALLY close to Amsterdam Cafe. I could easily walk and get it myself, but I was feeling crummy today, soooo... Anyhoo, I just don't understand why things take so long to get together... It's not just delivery, either. I've ordered a salad and been told 15 minutes for pick-up. Knowing they always take a while, I've given it an extra 5 minutes and still had to wait 15-20 additional minutes in the restaurant for my food to be ready. I've rarely had a bad experience with food quality -- I love their lemon chicken rice soup, and their fro-yo! -- but am starting to think that I can't justify waiting over an hour every time I order from here. *le sigh*

Great spot for dessert delivery. They don't deliver too late, but when it's a blizzard outside and all you want is a massive (and delicious) brownie or frozen yogurt, amsterdam cafe never disappoints. They do take quite a while on the delivery but as long as you're aware of that ahead of time then you should be peachy.

**review for frozen yogurt only** I got a sandwich here once and was underwhelmed. Perhaps I will order lunch again sometime and reevaluate...however my review still gets 4 stars due to Amsterdam's other offering: FROYO. O. M. G. We order frozen yogurt from here a solid 2-3 times a week. With the $8 minimum delivery charge, that means two containers per time. I have been having the best time coming up with flavor combinations and my addiction is getting pretty bad. Grubhub makes it too easy - no human contact necessary and within the hour two containers of fro yo are delivered to the door for approx $11-$12 with tip. Recommended: Oreo Peanut Butter Pumpkin (yum!) Strawberry Cracklin Oat Bran Plain Strawberry Snickers Brownie Cookie Dough Next up on my list to try is pineapple... :)

Love this place and have trouble refraining from going there daily for their frozen yogurt (raspberry and chocolate chip is my preferred flavor combo). :) I have tried a few of the sandwiches (grilled chicken & avocado, Windmill) and they have been fantastic!! Large portions. If you are thinking about ordering the chicken kabob dinner plate, I would say think about something else. It is the only thing I have ordered from here so far that has been anything but delicious (in fact, it was far, far from good).

I love this place. I stop by once a week on laundry day, and sometimes I just don't want to leave! The family who owns & runs Amsterdam is always friendly, and they always go the extra mile for their customers. The menu is huge, and there is so much to choose from! Truly something for everyone, and even on the off chance you want something they don't list on the menu, they'll make it for you! Yesterday I had a Greek salad with buffalo chicken...DELICIOUS, HUGE (I had to take more than half of it home) and all under $7! The girl behind the counter asked me if I wanted to try and almond joy ice coffee (also not listed on the menu) and it was a tiny taste of heaven! Comparable to PS gourmet down the street, and for less money! (Oh, and I didnt need cash!) The one thing I didnt get this time, but have gotten at least 100 times before is their frozen yogurt. Always fresh, and a huge selection! I've tried so many different kinds, and I have many more to go, but I have never once been disappointed! Keep up the great work, Amsterdam!

Call ahead or place your order online. It will take them 30+ mins to make a panini. 2 guys stood around on their cell phones. The counter girl stayed in the back. A customer left after waiting 10 mins. AVOID!

  • Morgan S.

Food is hit or miss. I enjoyed the panini and chicken salad sandwich. Buff chix wrap is a miss. 2 hr delivery is going to keep me from ordering again. I never call to complain, but this is ridiculous. They already sent me a 'rate your order' on foodler, and im still waiting.. 2+ hours...

The falafel was good however I had a very hard time being able to ear the wrap without making a MESS!. I am not a big fan of the concept. It's definitely a cool idea the way they do it, but not sure I'll ever go there again. Too messy....

  • Hanadi H.

Amsterdam cafe is a delight. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. I am a vegetarian so it's hard to find places that make something other than a veggie roll up and this place is it! Their eggplant parm wrap is one of the best I've ever had. It's hearty and filling (very big) and the eggplant is not deep fried like most pizza places do it. It seems to be baked which makes such a difference. Also, their falafel-hummus wrap is so good. It's fresh and filling. It's wraps like this that make me not miss meat (which I often do!). Also of note, their fries are fantastic. They are the type that has the crispy coating on it. I'm sure that means they are frozen, not fresh. But who cares!?

  • Caitlin M.

for spending over $20 on 2 wraps, i think i would rather go spend my money somewhere else and get the same, if not better tasting food. the employee behind the counter left me with a bitter taste in my mouth so much so that i decided to not even eat the other half of my meal in the cafe, and i took it with me. we ordered the grape leaves, which i have NEVER seen served with dairy inside of them before, so we didn't even think to ask if it was served with dairy. when we saw the meal, it was covered in dairy sauce, and we asked if we could get a new one without dairy because of a dietary restriction. this employee's response was: "are you serious?" i don't think i have ever felt so offended in an establishment before!! you would think that she would at least show a little bit of respect since we just spent a good amount of money AND she wasn't even the one making any of the food! she should probably take that butterfly neck tattoo and fly away to somewhere where that attitude and horrible customer service is accepted.

I can't wait to go back. I had the prosciutto, basil, tomato, and mozzerella sandwich and a soft serve, and they were YUM! I love that they actually use real ingredients to flavor the fro-yo instead of flavoring drops. I even had half of my sandwich for lunch the next day.... All the options looked awesome!

  • Seanne F.

Price accessible. High quality ingredients. Casual. Four of us stopped by for a pre-bar tour nosh and were fed well. An order of mozz sticks easily fed four of us (there were like 10 big sticks there) for an ap. Great vegetarian options. Bread selections. and Wraps. An absolute go-to cute place for customizable sandwiches.

Amsterdam's has become one of my favorite Southie Takeout joints. I am addicted to their spicy buffalo chicken roll up and frozen yogurt. Every time I go I try out a different combination of fixings in the fro-yo. By far best combo to date: Junior Mints & Oreo blended with vanilla fro yo. Not expensive and a lot to choose from. Would definitely recommend this place! Side Note: Amsterdam Cafe in the South End is a different owner, and does not compare to the Southie location in its quality of food or service.

  • Sarah D.

The girl who works behind the counter here is one of the most rude, nasty people I've ever encountered in the service industry. She is awful. Not even necessary to explain which person I'm referring to b/c it's so blatently obvious. I've been in here probably 5 times over the last year and this most recent was the last straw. I walked in and said "hi, I just placed an order for takeout for Sarah" with a smile. She looks right at me, literally looks me up and down and goes "YA I KNOW. *I'M* The one you TALKED to." ummm. ok? interaction continued in this manner, with me being nice and smiley and her comments being short, rude, attitude-soaked and accompanied by dirty looks. Awesome. Food is sooooo good. But not worth it. If I'm going to spend $8 on a sandwhich is going to be from someone who can at least muster up a smile. There's enough sandwich shops in Southie.

  • Michael M.

Great sandwiches! Friendly staff. The frozen yogurt quality and quantity is awesome (esp with various mix-ins!). I often order through foodler.com and delivery by Amsterdam is always prompt and the food is always hot. The one time I had trouble, the manager called to apologize and they offered to rush over another sandwich with a credit for next time. (it was superbowl, so they were running late with the influx of orders). It's rare you find customer service in a small food shop, but this place has it, and being a small business myself, I can absolutely appreciate the extra mile.

  • Alex I.

Based on the reviews I was interested to try the place. Ordering by phone was a bit of a chore and was a little surprised and embarrassed when only saw 1 meal was delivered. With that said - the lamb meat was good but it came not as the wrap I'm sure I ordered. Fries were alright despite being a little cool when it arrived.

I've gone to this place a couple times now, and I've always had a good sandwich here. The vegetables are always fresh, and the chicken salad is really good. I would definitely recommend getting a sandwich over pasta here, as the pasta was a little dry. The service is a little slow, to I recommend calling ahead and going to pick up your food if you live close enough. When Ive gone there to order I've waiting 15 minutes for an order, when there was no one else there.

On a late Sunday morning, when seemingly every joint in the city and near suburbs was bursting with brunchers and I was on a strict timeline, this cafe was blissfully empty. Looked like more of a take-out place than a dine-in place, but we happily sat on the couches and ate our bagels & sandwiches. The food: Good! Soft bagels, freshly cooked egg & sausage, yummy melted cheese. Service: Quick. Friendly once you make a friendly overture. Otherwise indifferent.

I order the portobello mushroom sandwich and mozzarella sticks. The sandwich wasn't very good, but not inedible. The mushrooms had a weird taste. The mozzarella sticks were pretty bad. They were cold, as was the sauce. And they didn't even taste that great when I heated them up. Overall, I probably won't go back.

I'm willing to bet I ordered wrong given all the rave reviews. But, I had the most God-awful Greek salad with grilled chicken from here last night. It had no business being called a Greek salad actually. - Old pale iceberg lettuce in big inedible chunks - Chopped up black olives. Not Greek olives. I mean the kind of chopped up black olives they put on pizza - flavorless feta - Nasty Ranch dressing (instead of the Greek I ordered) - Microwaved chicken breast. I knew it was microwaved because it had that tell-tale sign when some pieces are hard and overcooked while others are rubbery and chewy. Oh, and it was beige. Not a grill-mark on it. - No pepperoncini (sp?) - The few grape tomatoes, shredded carrots and cucumber slices were the only good thing about it. Damn, I'm still mad thinking about it. The man gave his beef kabob dinner a C which I guess, if he wrote a yelp review, would have meant 3 stars. The fact that they deliver is their only saving grace, I guess. But I would have been happier with a can of soup from my kitchen cabinet.

Oh customer service... how sad it is when you weigh so heavily on my reviews... Amsterdam Cafe is another one of those places that I really WANT to love. I've only been here once, and since then I've walked by to go to Arpeggio. My sandwich was okay, but certainly nothing to write home about. The boy loved his, but has now had two horrendous experiences there that have led to his outright dislike (both times waited over 10mins in an empty cafe for someone to even acknowledge his presence) Amsterdam's saving grace is their frozen yogurt. Carrot cake frozen yogurt? Yes, yes, one thousands times- yes (please). They take blocks of frozen yogurt, put it in a machine with whichever toppings you so desire, and out spews heaven. If you're feeling particularly patient I can recommend that 100 times over. Otherwise, I've always had better luck at Arpeggio.

TERRIBLE SERVICE! I ordered a panini sandwich that was completely inedible. It was soaked through and I could not lift it out of the wrapper. Not to mention the deliver driver would not come up one flight of stairs to my door. I called the store and asked to speak to the manager. He was extremely rude and argumentative. He kept speaking over me and tired to tell me everyone loves their food. I explained politely I had an issue and wanted a refund. He said fine and was ready to hang up, so I said don't you need my name/address, I paid with a credit card. He said no, "I know everything" He then hung up! DO NOT ORDER FROM AMSTERDAM CAFE!!! TERRIBLE!!!!

  • Michael J.

I have been coming to Amsterdam Cafe since they opened, and I must tell you that is indeed one of the hidden gems of the area. As a small family run business, you will always find one of the owners present. The food is always fresh and made to order. So if you are in a hurry, then call ahead and place your order. Otherwise, just expect to wait a little. The wait is to be expected for fresh food. I normally get the Bagel sandwich ,with ham, egg, and cheese. Always fresh, and not any more than the pre packaged, frozen ones available across the street from Dunkins. The only issue I have with them is with the sandwiches. The portions are too big...seriously.

  • Veronica F.

Me and my boyfriend love the food here! Everything from their soups to frozen yogurt is awesome. We probably get them 1x a week. However, I only gave it 3 stars because when you call for delivery or pick-up, the customer service is rude. You honestly feel like you are bothering them. Twice I was put on hold for over five minutes (I waited because the food is great). Another time we ordered and they forgot to put an item in the bag. I called to inform them- their response was "so, what would you want us to do about it?" Then they said they only had one driver and it would be a while. The delivery guy is great!! He was so apologetic and great we tipped him twice. I just wish the phone etiquette was better. We used to order from there much more, but dealing with an attitude on the phone, I'd rather go somewhere else...

Overall the food is good. Unhappy with the chicken caesar wrap. The wrap feel apart on the first bite. Never ever get delivery it always takes over an hour! Froyo is great!

This is my go-to place for when we need a serious sandwich fix but won't venture out of the house. I've been ordering the Windmill for years now (it's a really good chicken salad sandwich with bacon on foccacia) and I've tried a few other sandwiches which were also delightful. Quick delivery, good food, pretty inexpensive.. what more could you want?

I'm reviewing this place solely on the Frozen Yogurt as I have never ordered anything else from here. That said, the frozen yogurt is AWESOME. They have over 50 different toppings they can crush with your yogurt (twix and heath my personal favorite). I really look forward to these yogurts on a nice hot day. Best part - they will deliver these yogurts to your house with no delivery fee if you order over $7. Really cant beat that!

I ordered two sandwiches for delivery @ lunch. The pros: - Delivered for free in about 30 mins - Large sandwiches - Tasty, fresh ingredients The con: - One of the sandwiches was completely wrong! They must have mixed up orders. The FINAL pro: - A few mins later they came back w/ the right sandwich - no extra charge. Yay!

DONT ORDER DELIVERY FROM HERE!! It took nearly 2 hours and when our "chicken kabob" entrees (using quotes because the chicken was not grilled as you'd expect a kabob to be, but was just plain bland baked chicken with some greasy tahini sauce on top) finally arrived, key parts of the meal were missing. The salad was completely dry (no dressing on the lettuce or on the side as we'd requested) and we did not receive any pita even though we had ordered a side of hummus and the person on the phone had promised pita. I called the restaurant to complain and rather than apologizing, the woman that answered proceeded to argue with me. Overall Amsterdam cafe delivers overpriced crappy food and has terrible customer service - I would not order from here again.

I was looking for a place I could hang out for about four hours on a Wednesday afternoon beause I flew into Boston and the BF would not get off work until 5pm. Yelp did the job and I found this little cafe. Definitely not as large or roomy as described in the reviews but fit the bill. Went in and got a large hot chocolate (which lasted about 2 hours) and scored a one seat on a leather mini couch. Free Wifi so I plugged in the laptop and watched some episodes of Lost for four hours. Wish there was more around to do but the woman working there was incredibly hospitable and friendly. Next time I need to try the food as it looked really delicious. Amsterdam I may be back!

I want to like this place, especially because they offer something different than the standard southie fare - but it's just not that good. Not terrible, but not what I expect for greek/med food - more just mediocre veggies and bland hummus on pitas - wish I could say different. They do have frozen yogurt w/ tons of toppings, always a great treat - but again, not consistent depending on when you get it. Good and fast delivery.

Go for a sandwich and take home some Forzen Yogurt!! The Windmill Sandwich is awesome....Best Chicken Salad I've ever had and bacon!! I recomend you get the half sandwich and salad or soup.....they will do it with any sandwich on the menu and it's a great deal.

I've only been once but it was a top-ten chicken parmesan experience of my life. My friend that I dined with said that doesn't sound like the highest compliment, but I said it is when you consider I've had chicken parm from hundreds of places. I had the chicken parm wrap-up and it was huge and delish. I'm excited to order from here again and to try the fro-yo.

They deliver frozen yogurt which is awesome....but it has been taking at least an hour to be delivered. Tonight it's been over 2 hours as they messed up our order and are sending the correct one... Still waiting. When I called to check on it the girl was unbelievably rude making it sound as if it were my fault that they messed up the order. We'll be finding a new spot ASAP.

This place is a great place to grab a breakfast sandwich and my roommate really likes their coffee (I am not a coffee drinker, so I can not vouch for it personally). The breakfast sandwiches are just really good. The staff here is not exactly the warmest or friendliest bunch, so do not expect them to give you the warm fuzzies. Service here is rather slow, but I just chalk that up to the fact that they do not make everything ahead of time so you just have to wait for them to make your food to order. Definitely not the place to hit up if you are in a rush and need to grab a quick bite. The wi-fi connection did come in handy while we were hunting for a new place to live and then again while we were waiting for our internet to be connected after we first moved in to the new place.

This is more of a 3.5 star review, with the vegan frozen yogurt really helping me up it to a 4. So we'll start with the vegan frozen yogurt then! It's advertised as "tofu" but I really don't think it is. Tastes more like rice milk based. Either way, it's not outrageously amazing plain, but add some toppings in there (like Oreos-- yes, disturbingly Oreos are vegan and make GREAT froyo toppings!) or some nuts, and you've got yourself a very happy belly. You can also get regular frozen yogurt in either chocolate or vanilla flavor, and choose to blend in any other ingredient from a long list of toppings. There is only one size which is HUGE, and costs only about $4 when it's all said and done. One is more than enough for 2 people to leave fat and happy. Besides the froyo, there is a nice selection of sandwiches, salads, paninis, and pasta dishes. The menu sounded amazing, but my eggplant, tomato, mozzarella, basil sandwich had literally 2 small leaves of basil (ie, not enough to barely even taste it), and dry bread, leaving me yearning for more flavor. The sterile decor is spiced up by a couple big, loungey couches by the window, and several comfy chairs to chill in. If I lived closer, I could see making this a regular spot for reading the paper while drinking coffee or indulging in a slice of somethin chocolatey...

Amsterdam has the best frozen yogurt. To make the frozen yogurt (let's say strawberry) they pop in some vanilla frozen yogurt and some frozen strawberries in this machine that mixes them together into frozen yogurt magic. I like the fruit flavors better than the candy/chocolate, but they are all good. The sandwiches I've had here (the windmill, tuna salad and greek salad) have all been very good and huge. Service has always been friendly and sandwiches usually take just a few minutes. And they deliver. Yum.

I love Amsterdam Cafe. The food is delicious every time I order from them, and you can taste that the ingredients are fresh. I order a vegetarian wrap and it is wonderfully chock-full of nice veggies. No sorry-ass tomatoes here. I have blown my coworkers' minds when they saw I got frozen yogurt delivered to me at work. Yep, that's right. I can get frozen heaven in a cup, customized with the toppings I want, delivered. What a nice way to make a workday less like...well, a workday. I usually get delivery, but I have done take-out once and the staff were friendly. The prices are good, especially when you consider the quality of the food you're getting. I also like that they have many vegetarian options, including tofu frozen yogurt. Seriously, this place is great.

I only get one thing -either at the Amsterdam in South Boston or the one in the South End: The Windmill. Go there, and order it, but not much else because the sandwich is you-ge. The frozen yogurt also makes me happy.

I'll be honest, when I saw their unnaturally yellow chicken rice soup I was a wee bit scared. But then my boyfriend said it was Lemon Chicken Rice soup and I felt a lot better. The soup has a ton of rice in it which is great since I am not big on broth (hello boring!) and the chicken pieces are tasty. I liked that the lemon is subtle. More like a nuance of lemon. Delicious. Yes, I realize that this review is based solely on a $3.50 cup of soup but it was good. Plus one star for being the only food I could keep in my stomach yesterday.

The food here is great. The fact that they deliver, gravy. The fact that I called six times for delivery with a bfast sammy in mind, and their phone just rang off the hook- less awesome. This is the second time in recent memory that I've been let down by the service side of amsterdam... I used to call and a nice lady would pick up and send me whatever my little homebody heart desired. Now I call and speak in clarifications to a man with broken english, wondering if I'll receive my order as I describe it. Of course, today I didn't have to worry about it. They didn't pick up the phone! (grrr)

Amsterdam Cafe does some of the best sandwiches in Southie! I love their chicken salad on foccacia. (It's huge and I can usually only handle one half at a time). And they are very reasonably priced. The sandwiches even have cute little Dutch names like the "Windmill" or the "Red Light Special." They also do yummy smoothies. You can basically get any combination of the many flavors on the board. I usually stick to something basic like strawberry-banana. One point off because of this recent conversation I had in AmCafe: Me: "So are the owners Dutch?" Girl who works there: Blank stare. "I don't know. Why?" Me: "Because this place is called Amsterdam Cafe." I don't think she got it. Anyway...the owners are not Dutch btw. Also...they have free Wi-fi and delivery from here is super fast.

I work right down the street from this place so I am a frequent customer. Make sure not to order a sandwich on a french roll or it will be tiny. If you get it on any of the other breads, the sandwiches are HUGE. Some recommendations: The Windmill (Chicken Salad Club) The Red Light District (Pastrami and other meat with coleslaw) Meatball Panini Some things to avoid: Anything made with grilled chicken Eggplant wrap

Not the best place for food, but the frozen yogurts are AMAZING. When I first moved to South Boston I went in on a hot night around 9:20, I guess they were closing at 9:30 because the girl that was making the yogurts was pissed that I was coming in so late. She was complaining a lot, but she turned out to be my favorite worker at the Cafe! She makes the best combos- Tofu with oreos, heath, and PB... yum

Just picked up a frozen yogurt order for takeout, which was waiting in the freezer when I arrived earlier than the pickup time for my online order. I presume fresh blueberries were used, since I can see blueberry seeds. Also ordered one with peanut butter, Heath Bar, and brownie that is a little bit amazing, although I can't actually tell after a small sample if there is brownie involved. As far as I can tell it is frozen yogurt with fat before adding additional fat to it, i.e., frozen yogurt for ice cream lovers. Can't speak in regard to service, as I was in and out the door with my pickup order within 30 seconds, but the girl who grabbed my order from the freezer seemed friendly. I'll be back.

God, I almost don't want to review this place because all I had was the spaghetti with meatballs, and it seems more like a salad/sandwich/fro yo kinda place. The pasta with meatballs was just ok. The sauce was a bit sweet. The garlic bread that came with it was very garlicky, which I liked... but it wasn't super toasty. I want to give 5 stars for service, the gentleman on the phone was VERY courteous and attentive. 3 stars though for this particular food sensation. I'll have to try a sandwich some time and then add the necessary info to this review.

After looking for something quick and that wasn't pizza, I opted to go with Amsterdam Cafe. It was meh. The sandwich I had wasn't that good - a ham with brie on focaccia - it was really, really greasy. Pretty much inedible, which was a big disappointment given previous reviews about their sandwiches. I will say, it was HUGE. I also ordered the fro-yo which was great and enormous. I would have that again. One thing I really didn't like was that they printed my credit card number directly on the receipt, and if I hadn't checked it, I would have tossed the bag with my credit card number out in the open. Minus one star for that. Given previous reviews, maybe I ordered the "wrong" sandwich, so I'll possibly give them a try again, but I'll go with a fresh sandwich and pay with cash this time!

Great sandwiches at good prices. Also, the hummus is excellent. Freshly made for $3, cheaper than in the supermarkets, and better quality than what Wholefoods offers.

This place was just ok. I ordered some Spaghetti with meatballs to pick up. The noodles were fine, the meatballs were a bit spongy. The woman behind the counter was not exactly friendly and it honestly smelled a bit moldy inside. Because I now live across the street, I will likely come back. However, it's definitely not some place that I would ever go out of my way to get to

This place is for real. Great food here. Two things to order: Turkey-Mozzarella-Roasted Red Pepper Wrap Peanut M&M Frozen Yoghurt Great place to break up with your four-year girlfriend at. Whoever said this place was good for breakfast . . . I'll have the drugs he's having.

I do like Amsterdam Cafe. I'll stop by occasionally to get some of their frozen yogurt (worth going for just that alone) and one of their wrap-ups. It amuses me that they insist that I'm pronouncing 'Gryo' wrong. (they say Jeer-ro) But the food is good and keeps my tum happy.

Apartment hunting in Southie today, so I stopped in to Amsterdam Cafe for a little lunch and free wifi. The sandwich - a turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing sandwich on foccacia - was huuuge and tasty. They also have Arizona Green Tea in the cooler, so that was a major bonus. I didn't have room for the yogurt, but I will be back to try it when I finally make the move. ... Only missing a star because the music was a little too loud, and I think it was on Kiss 108... in my opinion, not the best fit for a cafe. Update: my roommates and I get the frozen yogurt delivered to our door... you can't really beat that. My favorite combination is vanilla yogurt with strawberries and chocolate chips. Yum!

I had the turkey & avocado with lettuce, tomato and mayo last night for dinner and it was great. I like that you can add on to your wrap or sandwich as you go along at just about no cost (as long as you're adding condiments not additional meat). Their fro yo is also yummy and pretty inexpensive as well. As with places like this I would stick to the lunch time fare and skip the brownies & spaghetti dishes; they just aren't their forte.

It gets one star because I can't give it none. I often stop here for a sandwich after my hair salon appointment on the way back to the office, and it's always been pretty decent or I wouldn't have kept doing so. Today I stopped in for a gyro, and it was just awful. I mean truly AWFUL. It had about an ounce of meat on it and I swear that what little meat there was, was well past its shelf life. It tasted rancid, literally rancid. It was also PACKED with wilted, brown romaine lettuce. The tomatoes were mushy and the sauce tasted like it had been sitting around for a month. If it weren't for the fact that it's a 20 minute walk from my office, I would go back and throw it at the food preparer. When she saw the meat was rotten, she could have asked me if I wanted something else. How unprofessional and downright DANGEROUS. Instead I threw it in the garbage, will have no lunch today, will NEVER go here again, and will tell everyone I know not to.

Another guilty pleasure only ever enjoyed while I am at work, but can I say this, I never knew pulled pork could taste so good! The menu is varied and anything you get is going to be tasty, they also have the best cole slaw this side of the Mississippi River. I would say that it is a little pricey and that delivery can sometime be a little long (resulting in some melted fro yo!!), but that over all what ever you order from Amsterdam is going to be delicious. The French Fries here, are the best....ever!!

Okay, I'm going to REALLY over-simplify things here... Amsterdam Cafe is pretty much the only good grub that I know of that I can get delivered to Andrew Sq. There's plenty of pizza and borderline Asian cuisine around which doesn't offer much competition. Everything I have ordered from Amsterdam Cafe has been fresh, in general portions and damn tasty; nice ingredient selections and attention to detail, as far as sandwiches go. They deliver very quickly from the time you order. I will thus only deduct a half a star for the lack of something appetizer-y on the menu, as I'm a sucker for such... and half a star for the actual ordering process. It proves difficult sometimes.

This place has an excellent menu, and the food is very good. I enjoy the chili which is saying alot because I'm a chili snob. Its not as thick as I would like it, but it has many of the elements that make a good chili. The only downside is their slow delivery. I can't complain too much because its free and I didn't have to go out in the cold to pick it up myself but its taken up to an hour at times. If I'm planning on ordering, I just plan ahead now.

This is a funny little Southie hide-out. They have leather couches arranged around a coffee table with the most curious assortment of reading material- and a cast of characters who gather there having equally curious conversation. Well on to the food...it's awesome. You can have any of several dozen healthy or decadent mix-ins added to vanilla or chocolate frozen yogurt. The sandwiches are huge, inexpensive and there are so many choices, everyone can have something they love. My faves are the goat cheese and sun dried tomato salad and the greek roll-up. My daughter likes the rembrandt and I have a friend who is hooked on anything that comes on the rosemary foccacia. Also, the owners/employees are very nice. My daughter is allergic to peanuts and they will actually clean their machine before making her a frozen yogurt. In fact, I am upping my rating to 5 stars for their willingness to avoid killing their customers...Moms like these kinds of things!

I had heard the Amsterdam Cafe was good. After living within 6 blocks of it the past year I'd stopped in a couple of times for cookies. I finally got in there for a sandwich today at lunch. It did not disappoint! I had the Tulip. A smoked turkey club type sandwich. Very tasty. I will definitely be back.

My quest for the perfect combination of sandwich and convenience to my office aka apartment took me to Amsterdam Cafe today, and I was pleasantly surprised. I've lived 2 blocks from here for a year, considered checking it out about 400 times, and just never got around to it. I'll definitely go back now that I have. Great variety of deli options, wraps, some special sandwiches, etc. I was boring and went for a turkey and avocado club on multigrain. Solid amount of turkey, ripe avocado, crisp bacon.... I'm full and happy. Seems like a cool place to set up shop on the couch with a coffee and read or whatever, too. Free wifi is always a plus.

Open just late enough to cure your craving. So often these small family owned places are not that great--but THIS ONE IS GREAT. Amsterdam Cafe has a huge selection of tasty sandwiches and a smaller but well edited select of deserts. Their soup menu is limited and for the most part lousy. Their corn chowder is the only one I tend to order repeatedly. If you can't find something on their regular menu they have a list of specialty sandwiches, my suggestion is the Van Gogh on focaccia with an extra side of dressing. This massive hunk of sandwich can be purchased as a half sandwich (good for beginners) and consists of smoked turkey, smoked ham, thousand island dressing, cole slaw, and cheese. From their regular menu I am a fan of the chicken salad sandwich on muligrain-I am often only able to stomach half of this three decker bite and wrap the rest up for another meal. They have this big machine that makes the most delicious frozen yogurt and frozen soy. Pick your flavor from a huge bord and this big corkscrew grinds the candy into the yogurt. Don't bother with some of the candy bars or the chocolate chips they always come out lacking flavor and the pieces just get in the way of enjoyment. My top flavors are M&M Malt Peanut Butter and Marshmallow Cracklin' Oat Bran-believe it or not! And in the Soy yogurt the Peppermint is such a treat! The people that work there are nice. We often hope the guys will be working (but not just because they are cute) because they can multitask. There is one girl who works there who manages to create a backup of upwards of 7 people-I often see folks just walk out. Not only is this one girl super incompetent she is also rude. The other woman there is a little better (and getting better) at taking orders and making the food. I do wish this particular women could find a shirt that fit her and didn't expose so much skin, it weirds me out that she is handling food with 12 inches of her body hanging out. My picky attitude and odd observances shouldn't take away from this place. They do deliver and the food is well conceived and executed (Especially for the price).

these people are horrible. not only did i order the simplest of things--a coffee with two shots of espresso (they have a machine) and toast--it also took them about 15 minutes and to get me the crappy product. the woman at the counter was unfriendly, and she left my toast on the counter too long before giving it to me. COLD. i had to go to the counter and ask if my toast/coffee was ready. its TOAST. no soy milk? i mean, i understand youre greek and all but why on earth is your business called the Amsterdam Cafe? its 2011, and people drink soy (yes, even in southie). If you dont want to change your 'tude, then change the name of youre place. Secondly, I had to buy a side of hummus because I used my debit card. So, I basically paid over $10 for an awful breakfast. And the hummus was horrible--needed more lemon, more tahini, more salt. get a grip you greeks!

We stopped at Amsterdam randomly the first time we were looking for a condo in Southie and fell in love. Now it's only a couple of blocks away from where we live, so we get a couple of great sandwiches pretty much any time we don't feel like cooking. My favorite: Greek roll-up. My wife's favorite: Grilled portobello sandwich on focaccia. Delicious and quick.

  • Jimmy T.

Come for the frozen yogurt. They have a huge selection of flavors (peanut butter is the best, IMO), and a large serving size. Just don't expect the line to move too fast since there's usually only one guy working and he doesn't mind taking his time. Otherwise, really nice and cute place.

I love this place. I usually end up getting the same few things every time and it doesn't matter, it's always so good. The Chicken Teriyaki wrap is my favorite, filled with teriyaki marinated chicken, roasted peppers, and rice. It's warm and fabulous and huge, and I eat the whole thing even if I try desperately to save half. Next up, the frozen yogurt. It's great. They swirl it right up with fresh ingredients and even have a tofu version for those who shun dairy like yours truly. Definitely one of my favorite lunch places in Southie.

This place is responsible for making my baby boy weigh almost 20 pounds in utero instead of a normal 7 pounds six ounces. Thank you, Amsterdam for making me a healthy, healthy baby boy. I spent almost every night out of the nine months of my boy's gestation here fetching my wife's lactose craving. His mother (my wife) would literally spin her head if she didn't have Amsterdam's "frozen yogurt with double snickers" to ease her back into humanity instead of the crazed, homicidal hormone that she could have been and occasionally exhibits even today (when we are too far away from Amsterdam). Aside from self-preservation and self-defense, I would still order my frozen yogurt here - it's better than soft-serve or scooped, or, for that matter, any other form of frozen dairy. Really. I mean, you can literally order anything with your "yogurt" - hot dog, cat, dog, Butterfinger, granola, fruit, Snickers, marshmellow, ANY CANDY, etc. It's limitless. They don't care - as long as it fits into their "yogurt" press. Don't worry, they clean it after each press. And, they only use the freshest, bestest ingredients, of which, again, there are a ton to choose. It's special watching your food made right before you. Trust me. Go there. Enjoy life. Eat frozen "yogurt." Have a double snickers. Really enjoy life. They just added really comfy couches and free WIFI - it's slowly turning into a really nice cafe to chill in, albeit a bit too bright. Go there. Eat yogurt (they also have great wraps, coffee, etc. - I'm sure they'd add them to the "yogurt" if asked). Surf the web. Life will be good. And, my 500 pound 14-month still loves it here - it's good for him to run around, and the staff loves kids.

I've never actually eaten in the cafe itself but have ordered delivery many, many times. It's always good and my clients always like what they get. The variety is great and they can cover you, whether you're a carnivore or a vegan. The serving sizes are large and the delivery is always timely. I really like this place. Hmmm, I'l think I'll call for a Pulled BBQ Pork Panini right now.

Evidently I ordered the wrong thing. Hungry, I ordered a mozzarella salad with red peppers and grilled chicken(which is pan fried). It was 90 degrees out, so I thought I would eat it there. I sat down and noticed that the only air was coming from the open door and there was no fan or A.C. Now first, let me say I don't like an establishment that offers no A.C. and NO FAN on a hot day. 2nd, I noticed I was alone and all of the employee's were in the back, probably with the fan. Then I noticed the crumbs everywhere and general disarray, i.e newspapers, coffee stains and sticky tables, then I began sweating, then I decided to take it TO GO. Ok the salad was awful! Awful awful awful. I swear to god there was an entire can of black olives on this thing. It was a black olive nightmare. Whats with the effing olives? The chicken was pan-fried and had a weird egg taste. The peppers were green and pickled(huh?) The croutons were stale and the mozzarella was actually ok, but then again I couldn't taste it through the balsamic vinegar. I say vinegar because I'm pretty sure they didn't use any oil. How could I forget the pita. Must have been a week old. I saved it and am using it to file my nails. Maybe this place has some better options or times of day to go there, but I will never know, because I will NEVER go back. Unless I start vomiting uncontrollably today from food poisoning. Then I'll go back with a lawyer. There is no excuse for a hot and dirty empty restaurant. People wonder why places go out of business? If something is terrible, please take it off of the menu!

Fabulous frozen yogurt, but the girl who works there (shes honestly there every time that I go) is very rude and not very good with customer service, to say the least. I think she must be related to the owner because its probably the only reason why she still works there. Went in the other night for my fro-yo fix, and gave her a $5 bill for the $4.25 yogurt. Needless to say, when I put out my hand for the change (I can always use quarters for laundry/meters!), she looked at me and dumped the change in the "tip" jar. While I stood there with an "I can't believe that you just did that" look on my face and my hand still suspended in mid air, she just turned around and walked away. I guess the only way she knows that she is getting a tip is if she just doesn't give people back their change! And on a side note, she didn't even make my yogurt, she just rang me out! Honestly, if this weren't the only place in Southie where you can get fro-yo made to order, I wouldn't go back, especially if she was still working there!

I just got back from lunch there. This place has great "roll-ups" which are these sandwich type of things in these huge pitas. I had the spicy buffalo chicken roll-up and it was fantastic. They also have very good yogurt that you can mix will all sorts of toppings.

Sunday nights, I work within the delivery radius of this place. Once we discovered Amsterdam Cafe, we haven't gone anywhere else. The sandwiches are big and tasty, and everything is reasonably priced. Delivery is quick. They take credit cards over the phone, which is really convenient. I'm a big fan of the Vania sandwich (turkey and cranberries) and their garlic bread is a great side.

Amsterdam Cafe has a mean foccacia sandwich, tops in the neighborhood. I usually just get the turkey and it's excellent. The ingredients are all super fresh and service is great, at least it is for take out. I've gotten a few other things too (the Van Gogh, the red light, and the falafel - which are all decent), but I now stick w/ the simple and great foccacia bread sandwich made to order... you can't go wrong.

I absolutely adore this place! It is very vegetarian friendly, which if you know Southie is like not smelling pee at the 711 corner downtown. Not only are they vegetarian friendly but they have VEGAN FROZEN YOGURT (they also have regular don't panic)!!!! Yea when I first heard that I thought...eh its hit or miss...but when I tried it I was drooling down the front of my shirt. The fruit or toppings are literally blended into it when you order it via this crazy 3 foot tall contraption. The staff is really down to earth, the atmosphere is totally chill with couches, WIFI, and big windows. Their food is very fresh with quality ingredients. My friend who always complains about every place we eat loved this place and is obsessed with the tuna melt. I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEEEEEEE the goat cheese sundried tomato salad, which is also awesome for summer heat. Long story long this place is choice for wraps, sandwiches, yogurt, coffee, tea, soup, blah blah blah.

I live around the corner for AmCafe and I love it! Whenever I am too lazy to make dinner I run around the corner and get a turkey avacado pita roll up with bacon and lettuce. Highly recommended. Their fro-yo is amazing and you can mix in anything you want. The guy who works there is amazingly nice and always asks me how I am, and if my cable isn't working I can always rely on this place to have the game on!

Amsterdam Cafe is OK. Cafe Arpeggio is much better.
